Pokemon is a Japanese media franchise that began with a pair of video games created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996. The franchise centers around fictional creatures called "Pokémon", which humans called "Trainers" catch and train to battle each other for sport. The franchise has expanded to include anime, manga, trading card games, films, and various other merchandise. The anime series, which premiered in 1997, follows the adventures of Ash Ketchum, a young boy who dreams of becoming a Pokémon Master.
